Remembering Florida...

I remember the taste of the ocean, tangy and harsh on the tongue, down the throat. The fluidity of the sand, stirring about, though weighed down by bulk of the water. The instinctual sensation of floating among the fish, the seaweed. When one floats in the water, what is felt? The power of the ocean, yes, and the helplessness of one's own body, unguarded and so incredulously small amongst the creatures of the sea and the ancient waters themselves. The primal intuition that a miracle is in front of us, around us, above and below us. A place to cherish. The waves slap the shores endlessly, carried in from lands in the infinite distance, their tune echoing mellifluously across the beach. An incredible song, that melody of sea and sand. The silhouettes of scavenging birds hang in the pastel light of morning, streaked across a nearly-cloudless sky. A glorious place to be, the beach.

You sure do have a way with words and that drink sounds super tasty! I definitely think that the Daring Bakers are good for a beginner...I have been challeneged every month, but always learn something and have been happy with the results most of the time. Hope to see you as part of the group soon! :)

I thought I would answer your question about the Barefoot Bloggers. Here is a quote from the group blog-

We're an [extra]ordinary group of cookers and bakers with a love of all things Ina. We'll be testing (and retesting) Ina Garten's (Barefoot Contessa) recipes as a group and blogging about them on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month.

So yep, we just love Barefoot Contessa! There's a link to the site on my blog- just click on Ina's picture on the right.

Keep up the good work!

Your tropical treat sounds amazing to!

Katie, you ROCK! I just wanted to tell you that... and I cannot believe you are 14 because you write WAY more eloquently than most grown-ups I know (including myself).

Katy

That smoothie looks perfect!!!

Hi Katie! Well, life does get busy so I fit cooking events in the best I can. If you enjoy cooking as much as I see from your beautiful blog, you will have to decide which one is right for you and jump in. The fact that you are only 14 is amazing! I don't know how hard it is for you to get ingredients so that may be a big factor for you in doing a cooking group. If purchasing ingredients is not a problem then I say, go with what really sounds appealing to you. The daring bakers is about challenging ourselves and learning. Barefoot Contessa is dishes meant to be easy to put together so that we each have more time to enjoy the company we are with more then stressing out over an elaborate dinner. Then there is the Tuesdays with Dorie group. This group is working their way through Dorie Greenspan's cookbook, From My Home to Yours. Every Tuesday, there is a new recipe chosen. My advice to you would be simple, pick 1 group that sounds like fun and give it a try. If it doesn't work out, let the person that heads up the group know and try a different group. You never know, someday you may come up with your own cooking group idea =). Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Hugs,

Lore

Such a beautiful description Katie!

I just love your writing on the beach. We go to the Oregon Coast all most every summer and I can feel the beach in my soul. I all most get homesick for it. Thank you also for the sweet comment on my scones!
